Verrill Dana Helps Vermont Sole Community Hospital Obtain Settlement of $430,000 from Medicare

Will Stiles represented a Vermont sole community hospital in an appeal before the Medicare Provider Reimbursement Review Board. In this matter, the Medicare Administrative Contractor (“MAC”) disallowed a significant portion of the Provider’s low volume adjustment by applying outdated Monitrend Report data. Verrill Dana, working with the health care consulting firm of Baker Newman Noyes, developed an alternative methodology for documenting staffing ratios that was ultimately accepted by the MAC. As a result, the Provider obtained an additional $430,000 of Medicare reimbursement in July 2011.
