Misti advises clients on all aspects of employee benefits and executive compensation law. She reviews and analyzes retirement and welfare plan documents (including group health plans) and executive compensation arrangements; drafts plan documents and executive compensation agreements; and prepares summary plan descriptions and other employee communications. She helps employers correct plan compliance issues and has experience filing plan determination letters with the IRS. She regularly conducts legal research on a wide variety of benefits and compensation issues affecting public and private employers, and is developing particular knowledge in health care reform legislation and church plans.
A member of Verrill Dana’s Health Care Reform Response Team, Misti has presented numerous seminars on health care reform. In addition, Misti edits and writes articles for the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Group’s blog, www.employeebenefitsupdate.com.
During law school Misti worked as a legal intern for the Connecticut Urban Legal Initiative and as a law clerk for the Maine District Court Family Division, co-chaired the Corporate and Securities Law Society, and was a teaching assistant for first-year students. She was a summer associate at Verrill Dana.
Misti graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in English and a concentration in writing. Prior to law school she worked in a securities litigation practice at a New York City law firm. Misti, a native of Maine, grew up in an Unorganized Territory on Moosehead Lake. She speaks conversational French and is learning Brazilian Portuguese.
