Biography

Kathy has enjoyed a broad range of experiences in the Portland legal community since 1994. Initially, with skills developed in banking and accounting, she worked in a small general practice. Following completion of her paralegal certificate, she began work as a legal secretary in a mid-sized firm where, with encouragement from a senior partner, she became a litigation paralegal focusing in defense of personal injury, toxic tort, and professional liability claims. She joined Friedman Gaythwaite Wolf in 2005 and now is part of the Verrill Dana team upon its merger with Friedman Gaythwaite Wolf in August, 2013.

Kathy supports the Litigation & Trial group in the defense of professional liability disputes, personal injury and products liability, complex commercial litigation, and insurance litigation from initial assessment through appeal. She assists counsel in all phases of the discovery process, analyzes and summarizes medical records, and interviews witnesses. She enjoys researching expert witness databases, medical issues, and federal, state, and local law. She works with the trial team to prepare materials for depositions, mediations, panel hearings, and trials. Kathy directs her strong organizational and analytical skills to support the litigators in successfully representing Verrill Dana’s clients.

Kathy graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a B.S. in Elementary Education, concentrating in Humanities and she holds a Paralegal Certificate from the University of Southern Maine.

Kathy lives in Portland and summers on Chebeague Island. She enjoys family times, including sharing with her grandchildren all that Chebeague has to offer, especially the beach and community.
