Biography

Trees, land, wind, and water: these are the focus of Jeff Selser’s natural resources legal practice, and he is widely praised for his no-nonsense, results-oriented approach to solving client issues. As chair of the firm’s Timberlands Group, Jeff’s knowledge and skill have been called upon for deals across the United States and Latin America, making him one of the most active and experienced timberland lawyers in practice today. Jeff has negotiated and closed many of the nation’s largest and most complex land transactions, and is well-versed in all aspects of timberlands ownership, investment, and operation. Although Jeff’s clients include some of the nation’s largest landowners, he also represents clients in more locally-oriented projects, such as the purchase and sale of family-owned farms and woodlots, resolution of title issues and boundary disputes, and a broad range of other real estate and land use matters.

Jeff has significant experience in wind power development, frequently representing both landowners and wind energy producers in structuring wind leases, easements, and other operational agreements, as well as permitting grid-scale and community-based projects. In addition, Jeff’s natural resources focus has made him a “go-to” lawyer for representing landowners in the negotiation of a wide range of conservation easements (including working forest, agricultural/farmland, and waterfront easements), wetland mitigation banks, and other ecosystem-services agreements.

Outside of the law, Jeff is active in his community as a soccer and lacrosse coach, and is heavily involved in local civic activities and issues, often serving in the vital role of general rabble-rouser. He has a (questionably) healthy obsession with soccer; a love of hiking, camping, fishing, skiing, and other outdoor, nature-based activities; and a weakness for chocolate. Luckily, his family shares – or pretends to share – these interests, and Jeff is often seen dashing off in pursuit of these activities with his wife, two daughters, and dog (a freakish mix of dachshund, chihuahua, and African honey badger) in tow.
