Biography

Prior to joining Verrill Dana in 2001, Jay Nutting served as a Legislative Assistant on Capitol Hill. In that role, he focused on agricultural, environmental, and taxation issues, including the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001. Jay also worked actively on the 2001 Farm Bill, during the passage of which he collaborated successfully with other legislative offices to ensure the inclusion of provisions to help Maine seniors. During the last five Legislative Sessions, he has been actively involved in various issues, including telecommunication and electric utility regulation, water utility restructuring, product recycling, transportation infrastructure and general business regulatory issues. Previously, Jay worked on behalf of Yankee Farm Credit in Vermont, and has helped organize numerous political campaigns in both Maine and Vermont. Jay is a former member of his town's planning board and serves on the board of the Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation.
