Work/Life Balance

We have long recognized that Verrill Dana's success is dependent on our ability to find and retain the very best people. Having the good fortune of being in the state with the motto “The Way Life Should Be,” we realize that a challenging professional environment is only part of the equation. A supportive community and sensitive employment policies and benefits programs help ensure that our Attorneys can achieve "life success" in addition to a rewarding and challenging legal career.

In addition to a full range of employee benefits, we offer the following programs to help with a diverse array of needs to make achieving the right “work/life balance” seem a lot less like work.

    • Flexible work schedules, including reduced-hours arrangements;
    • Paid time off;
    • Domestic partner benefits;
    • Employee Assistance Plan;
    • Maternity and paternity leave; and
    • Group rates for gym memberships

 Reduced Hours and Other Flexible Schedules
Attorneys may work on a reduced-hours or flexible-time basis with approval. A number of associates and partners have established such arrangements over the years. A partner is named as the Flexible Hours Coordinator for the firm and considers requests for approval. In considering requests for reduced-hours arrangements, the firm considers the needs of the attorney and the firm’s commitment to its clients. Subject to the relevant provisions of the applicable benefits plan, reduced-hours associates receive the same insurance benefits and are fully eligible for consideration for advancement, compensation increases (pro-rated), and bonuses (pro-rated).
