Biography

Alistair Raymond works with businesses, business owners, and non-profits on transactional and corporate matters. Alistair regularly assists clients in a wide variety of areas, including contract negotiation and drafting; the purchase or sale of businesses; commercial lending; corporate governance; new business entity formation, and associated regulatory issues.

Alistair also works with banks and other financial institutions on regulatory and transactional matters. Some recent matters have involved bank mergers, chartering and licensing of a non-depository trust company, regulation of affiliate transactions, remote deposit capture, consumer and commercial electronic banking, and electronic contracting and disclosures. Alistair also advises clients in the areas of privacy and data security regulation, including data security policies and procedures, breach notification and liability for fraudulent electronic transactions. In addition to his practice with the Banking Group, Alistair is co-editor of the group’s blog, Banking Law Update.

Alistair brings a wide array of professional experiences to Verrill Dana. Prior to attending law school, where he served as Managing Editor of the Maine Law Review, Alistair received an M.B.A. from the University of Southern Maine and a Bachelor of Science from Saint Lawrence University with majors in chemistry and philosophy. He worked in both quality engineering and marketing management for a North American industrial manufacturing company. Alistair served as law clerk to Chief Justice Leigh I. Saufley of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court and as a legal intern in the litigation and consumer protection divisions of the Office of the Maine Attorney General. Currently, Alistair serves as a member of Verrill Dana’s Total Quality Steering Committee, a committee charged with implementing and overseeing total quality management initiatives within the Firm.

A native of Maine, Alistair is committed to utilizing his legal and business skills to benefit the community. During his law school career, Alistair was recognized for his significant pro bono service. Alistair currently serves as a member of the board of directors and as chair of the development committee for Spurwink Services, Inc., one of Maine’s largest non-profit mental health care providers, which cares for children with the most severe mental health and behavioral disorders. Alistair is a member of the Tau Class of Leadership Maine, a program through the Maine Development Foundation committed to economic development in Maine.
