PORTLAND, ME (February 21, 2006) - Five prominent lawyers have joined the Boston office of Verrill Dana, LLP, one of Northern New England’s leading full-service law firms based in Portland, Maine. Verrill Dana’s new attorneys include Gene D. Dahmen, a highly respected lawyer who was the first woman ever to serve as President of the Boston Bar Association, and Donna M. Evans, formerly a partner at the prominent Boston firm of Mintz Levin Cohn Glovsky & Popeo.
Also joining the firm were James C. Hamilton, a leading Boston corporate and business lawyer; John E. Krampf, formerly a partner in the labor and employment practice of the Philadelphia-based firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, and Gretchen Bauer Graef, an experienced lawyer in the field of domestic relations and family law.
Dahmen, who was most recently a Partner in the Boston firm of Deutsch, Williams, Brooks, DeRensis & Holland, P.C., has joined Verrill Dana as a partner in the Litigation Group. She was the first woman to serve as President of the Boston Bar Association (1987-88). Dahmen is one of the leading lawyers in Boston in the field of domestic relations and family law, and served until recently as co-chair of the family law department at her former firm. Dahmen was recently selected as a "Massachusetts Super Lawyer," an annual peer survey which recognizes the top five percent of all attorneys in the state, and further honored by being selected as one of the "Top 100" among all the lawyers so honored. Dahmen is a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, received an M.A.T. from Johns Hopkins University, and earned her J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School.
Evans, formerly a Partner in the Boston law firm Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo, has joined as a Partner in Verrill Dana’s Litigation Group. Her practice includes complex business disputes, including disputes involving corporate fiduciary duties, first amendment issues and intellectual property. In the area of fiduciary duties, Evans both advises boards and corporations regarding fiduciary duties and has litigated substantial disputes involving fiduciary duties. In the area of first amendment issues, Evans has substantial experience with pre-publication review, disputes involving defamation issues, access of the press to information, and first amendment issues involving use of the Internet. Evans is admitted to practice in Massachusetts. She received her B.A. (1979) and her M.A. (1981) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her J.D., cum laude, from the University of North Carolina School of Law (1989), where she served as Note and Comment Editor of the UNC Law Review.
Hamilton has joined Verrill Dana as Counsel in the Business Law Department, where he will serve as a senior corporate attorney. He has extensive experience representing both large and small companies, as well as serving as general counsel to a major publicly-held high-tech company. Hamilton was a founding Partner of the firm of Hamilton & Dahmen, which subsequently merged with Deutsch Williams. He graduated from Earlham College, holds a Master’s Degree from Brandeis University, and earned his J.D. at the Harvard Law School.
Krampf has joined the firm as Counsel in the Labor and Employment Law Group. He was formerly a senior partner in the labor law practice at Morgan Lewis & Bockius and has more recently has conducted his own law practice representing management in employment law, arbitration, and mediation matters, while also consulting to governmental and nonprofit organizations on labor and employment matters. Krampf received his undergraduate degree from Duke University, and his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Graef has joined Verrill Dana as an Associate in the Litigation Group. She previously served as an Assistant District Attorney in Norfolk and Suffolk counties in Massachusetts before joining Dahmen in the practice of domestic and family law. Graef attended Radcliffe College and is a graduate of New York University and the Columbia Graduate School of Social Work, and received her J.D. from the Boston College Law School.
